Frequently Asked Questions All Classes Q:    When are classes offered? A:    Our core classes are our day time small group classes for children ages 3-18.  These are offered once a week on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, depending on your child's level.  We also offer adult small group, semi-private, and private lessons periodically - Email us for more details. Target Spanish for Customer Service will be offered in two sessions from 11:30 am-1:00 pm for Retail/Cell Phone and 12:30-2:00 pm for Medical/Pharmacy on Tuesdays & Thursdays from July 5-28,2011. Q:    Where are classes offered? A:    Most of our classes are held in the North Columbus area although periodically there may be certain sessions held in the Historic Columbus area. Target Spanish for Customer Service will be held in Summer 2011 at the Private Event Room inside Houlihan's at the DoubleTree Hotel in Columbus, GA (just off of I-185 at the Airport Thruway exit). Spanish I, II, & III Q:    Can my child join a class already in session? A:    Yes!  You will need to contact Seņora Raquel to discuss your child's or your specific background and learning goals, but new entrants with the appropriate prerequisite skills are welcome at any time. Q:    We've been studying Spanish/French at home for the past year. Would we really benefit that much more from a class environment? A:    Absolutely!  Language cannot be truly learned in a vacuum.  Language is dynamic, and so should be learned and practiced continuously in an interactive environment.  Most people say their main goal in learning a foreign language is to be able to speak it.  That is why we use the power of the internet, weekly phone conversation practice, and in-class discussions to constantly improve our students' ear for the language, pronunciation, listening, and speaking abilities. Grammar is also taught in a complementary fashion to the English grammar learned in other classes.  So students benefit from a greater understanding of their first language in the process of learning a second.  Without real-time interaction with fellow learners, speaking correction, personalized grading, critiques, and encouragement, many of the at-home, online, or book-only methods out there fall short of a well-rounded foreign language education. Middle School Q:    How old should my child be before joining the Middle School Spanish Class? A:    We really like to look at our students according to maturity level, ability, and age as three key ingredients in class placement.  Most of our Middle School students are between the ages of 9-13, but those on the fringes could potentially benefit more from the Elementary or Spanish I classes. Your best bet is to discuss your child's prior Spanish learning and maturity level with Seņora Raquel before making your final decision.  Middle School students will be expected to complete homework assignments independently and keep an organized separate vocabulary notebook throughout the course. Elementary & Preschool Q:    My child has never been away from me.  Can I sit in on the class? A:    While you are welcome to preview our classes already in session before your child joins, we find it is best to drop your child off and allow him/her to adjust on his/her first day alone.  I am a mother of two children myself, so I can understand your desire to be with your child as he/she makes a transition, but we find that the children adjust much better if left to sort it out by themselves on their first day. You may stay nearby in your car or on the front porch, and I will be happy to give you an update after class on whether or not your child rallied quickly and began to enjoy the class and classmates.
